~ Jeremy ~ has a long and varied list of musical endeavors and directions. Raised by a musical family and trying his hand at multiple instruments, he finally settled into drums at the age of 15. Jeremy is a self-taught drummer, but metal being his interest at the time, he actually started with Metallica as an instructor, spending six to eight hours a day for two years listening and learning drums. One day Billy Mak would be walking by the house and hear the practice — from then on Jeremy was destined to play music for the rest of his life.

While playing in many garage bands and performing at the normal high school shows and parties, Jeremy met up with Dominic Renzy, a then 16-year-old prodigy on the guitar, the two would set out and create WANT, a strong drop-D grunge-style band that would do an east cost tour under RCA records. Being young and introduced to music on the road took its toll and WANT would burn itself out. Tired of the bar scene and immensely competitive nature of the small rock bars, Jeremy took some time off.

Living in apartment and not playing in a band for the first time in five years Jeremy met up with Keom, a resident of the apartment complex whose hand-drumming would inspire Jeremy to go into a completely new direction. Enamored with the “hippy” life that drew in hand percussion, Jeremy was pointed in the direction of creative and inspiring music utilizing tempos and dynamics in drumming he’d never previously incorporated into his drumming style. Jeremy spent the next five years frequenting drum circles and workshops, often sitting in on percussion for other bands.

Jeremy finally linked up with Dave Brown, a multi-talented musician with funk music for blood, and would spend the next two years playing shows with Brown Sugar, an incredible band touching on jazz, fusion, funk, rap and … the list goes on. Again enjoying the freedom of improv and now learning jazz-based rhythms from Felix of B.S. Jeremy turned his eyes back to the drum kit.

Jeremy, now introduced into the funk and hip-hop culture, found other musicians quickly and started multiple music projects, believing this fusion of music would be the next cool thing to come out of the Philly area. But he had no desire to head back into the bar and music scene, so he decided to try alternative routes to playing live music. Thus, the fusion of ART and music became his show staple.

Since linking up with the Well-Fed Artist gallery, Jeremy has maintained and played a regular outdoor show on the First Friday of every month, weather permitting, since February of 2001 — a particularly cold evening where he and Dave Brown went out to play the first show with a three-piece drum set and an upright bass — the First Friday Street Shows were born.

Jeremy’s musical support for this gallery would lead to the formation of some great Philly bands, such as jazz/iprov act Neglecting Otis and the new passion, BeatnikBrown. While Jeremy still strives to introduce new rhythms, culture and art forms into his soul’s core …. “A Long Road Awaits”….. and begs to be traveled!
